Steven Garza is an expert tax counsel, providing legal representation for tax controversies and planning guidance across a wide range of tax matters. He is informed in this work by advising both taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service over the course of his career in the public and private sectors. He combines a deep rigor and knowledge of the law with a uniquely practical approach that focuses on the determinative facts and issues.
Prior to founding Garza Tax Law, Steven held roles as tax associate at Goodwin Procter, LLP, and General Attorney at the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS. At Goodwin Procter (one of the top 20 largest law firms in the U.S.), Steven practiced transactional tax law among the most sophisticated attorneys and clients in the private sector. Afterward, as an attorney for the IRS, Steven gained experience at all levels and stages of tax controversy, from assisting agents with audits to writing responses to post-judgment motions by corporations as large as Coca-Cola, all with the honor of representing the federal government and the people of the United States.
Steven graduated from Yale University in 2012 (B.A. Literature) and Boston University School of Law in 2017 (J.D. and Tax LL.M.). While working at the IRS, Steven was active as a union representative for the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU). Steven is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, and the federal U.S. Tax Court.
